Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' Creates Box Office Storm: Two Major Tamil Films Postponed as Fans Celebrate Thalapathy's Final Movie

The excitement surrounding Thalapathy Vijay's highly anticipated film 'Jana Nayagan' has reached unprecedented levels ahead of its July 23, 2026 release. Widely believed to be Vijay's final film before entering full-time politics, the movie has prompted two Tamil filmmakers to postpone their releases, highlighting the superstar's unmatched box office dominance.
'Immortal' Release Shifted to September 4
Actor-composer GV Prakash Kumar announced that his supernatural horror-thriller 'Immortal', originally scheduled to release on July 17, will now hit theatres on September 4, 2026.
The decision comes as cinema exhibitors are expected to allocate the majority of screens to 'Jana Nayagan', making a simultaneous release commercially challenging.
Sharing the announcement, GV Prakash extended his wishes to Vijay and wrote that when "Thalapathy arrives, it's time to make way—especially for his final film."
Directed by Mariappan Chinna, Immortal stars GV Prakash Kumar and Kayadu Lohar in lead roles. The dark fantasy horror-thriller follows the story of a man haunted by a terrifying supernatural force, with music composed by Sam CS.
'The Dark Heaven' Also Delays Release
The makers of 'The Dark Heaven', starring Sidhu Sid, have also postponed their theatrical release to avoid competing with Vijay's farewell film.
The production team confirmed that a new release date will be announced soon, adding that they, like millions of fans worldwide, are eagerly waiting to witness Thalapathy Vijay's "one last dance" on the silver screen.
The filmmakers also appealed to fans to celebrate the release responsibly and ensure everyone's safety during the festivities.
'Jana Nayagan' Becomes Kollywood's Biggest Event of 2026
With 'Jana Nayagan' expected to be Vijay's final movie before beginning his full-time political journey, anticipation across Tamil Nadu has reached extraordinary levels.
