Shatrughan Sinha on Sonakshi Sinha Trolling: Accuses BJP IT Cell, Opens Up on Her Political Entry
Aug 18,2026
Veteran actor and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shatrughan Sinha has spoken out over the social media trolling faced by his daughter, actor Sonakshi Sinha.
In an interview with ABP News, Shatrughan addressed criticism of Sonakshi's public support for student protests and also responded to questions about whether she could eventually enter politics.
What Did Shatrughan Sinha Say About Sonakshi Joining Politics?
Shatrughan Sinha was asked about Sonakshi's support for protests in Delhi and criticism that she had not spoken about student protests in Jharkhand.
He rejected the criticism, saying that Sonakshi had also expressed support for students in Jharkhand.
The veteran actor further said that his daughter's political views can sometimes be stronger and more outspoken than his own.
When asked whether Sonakshi could enter politics in the future, Shatrughan said he could not confirm anything.
He praised his daughter, describing her as a worthy daughter and leaving the possibility of her political entry open.
Shatrughan Sinha Accuses BJP IT Cell Over Trolling
The actor-turned-politician also made allegations about the online trolling targeting Sonakshi.
Shatrughan Sinha accused the BJP IT cell and associated supporters of being behind what he described as organised or “paid” trolling against his daughter.
He alleged that some online accounts were following scripts rather than expressing independent opinions.
These are claims made by Shatrughan Sinha, and they should not be treated as independently established facts without further evidence or a response from the BJP or its IT cell.
Sonakshi Sinha Has Faced Online Trolling Before
This is not the first occasion on which Sonakshi Sinha has faced criticism on social media.
The actor has previously been targeted by online trolls over various aspects of her personal and public life, including her marriage to actor Zaheer Iqbal.
Shatrughan said Sonakshi has chosen not to give undue attention to online trolls.
Why Was Sonakshi Trolled Recently?
Sonakshi Sinha had publicly expressed support for Sonam Wangchuk and student protesters following an incident involving the activist at Jantar Mantar.
She shared a video supporting Wangchuk and the protesters and backed their right to continue raising their concerns peacefully.
Her comments subsequently triggered criticism and trolling on social media.
Sonakshi’s Political Future Remains Unclear
While Shatrughan Sinha has acknowledged his daughter's strong political views, there is currently no confirmed announcement from Sonakshi Sinha that she plans to enter electoral politics.
For now, her political future remains a matter of speculation.
