Ashutosh and Renuka first met during the shooting of a film by director Hansal Mehta. They were met by singer Rajeshwari Sachdev. Ashutosh would take time out of his busy schedule to talk to Renuka and recite poems to her. One day Renuka proposed to him after listening to Ashutosh's poem. At the time the two met, Ashutosh was a little acquainted with Renuka, but Renuka did not know him.
In the first meeting, Ashutosh told Renuka- 'We are your big fans.' Renuka was overjoyed to hear this. However, the two did not talk again for months. Director Ravi Rai organized a Diwali party which Ashutosh could not reach. The next day, Ashutosh wished Renuka a Happy Diwali through voicemail. From here on the phone started talking between the two. Eventually, the two met again after talking on the phone for almost 3 months. Ashutosh Rana impressed Renuka with his mood. It was just then that both of them held each other's hand in 2001 and got married and are still playing each other's well. He also has two sons.
