Prashanth Neel Calls ‘Dragon’ Jr. NTR’s Toughest Career Decision
In a recent interaction with Galatta Plus, Prashanth Neel opened up about the origins of Dragon and the lengthy discussions that took place before the project finally materialized.
According to the filmmaker, he first narrated the story to Jr. NTR nearly five years ago. While the actor appreciated the narrative, he had major concerns regarding the morality and emotional depth of the central character.
Prashanth Neel explained that Dragon features one of the darkest protagonists he has ever written. He emphasized that the role demanded a massive leap of faith from Jr. NTR, especially considering the actor’s nationwide popularity and carefully built image.
The director stated that audiences would fully understand the gravity of the decision only after watching the complete film.
Why Did Jr. NTR Hesitate to Say Yes?
The core issue for Jr. NTR reportedly revolved around the character’s motivations. The actor wanted clarity on whether the protagonist’s brutal actions were genuinely justified within the dramatic structure of the story.
Prashanth Neel revealed that it took nearly three years to convincingly explain the emotional and narrative logic behind the character’s behavior. Only after those extensive discussions did Jr. NTR finally agree to take on the project.
The filmmaker described the decision as “extremely risky,” particularly for a superstar who enjoys immense love and admiration across India. He also praised Jr. NTR for showing the courage to step into such a morally complex and intense role.
Jr. NTR Turns Ruthless in ‘Dragon’ Glimpse
The recently released teaser presents Jr. NTR in a never-before-seen avatar — a merciless assassin battling rival gangs involved in the opium trade.
One of the teaser’s most striking visuals shows the actor standing atop a mountain of dead bodies while armed to the teeth. The gritty landscape and violent atmosphere have already drawn comparisons to the rugged worlds seen in KGF and Salaar.
The glimpse also hints that Jr. NTR’s character has killed so many people that he has lost count entirely, further emphasizing the brutal tone of the film.
Fans have praised the teaser for its raw action, dark visuals, and intense screen presence, with many calling it one of Jr. NTR’s boldest transformations to date.
