Talking about the rift between the two actors, Shamas Siddiqui says that it was in the year 2009 when Kabir Khan's film came to New York. Taking his point forward, Shamas says, 'I knew Irfan Bhai very well. Initially, everything was great between Irrfan and Nawaz. But later both of them started disliking each other due to the affair of a female friend of Irrfan. Irfan used to have a girlfriend in the US. Whose affair with Nawaz started later? After which the confrontation started between the two.

Shamas reveals that even on the sets of The Lunchbox, all was not well between the two. The matter had increased so much that both did not even like to see each other on the sets.
