The ongoing controversy between Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has once again brought the film body into the national spotlight. While the federation initially faced criticism for reportedly “banning” Ranveer Singh, FWICE later clarified that it had merely issued a “non-cooperation notice” against the actor.
Under this directive, more than 400,000 members associated with the federation have reportedly been instructed not to collaborate with Ranveer Singh or participate in any projects linked to him.
However, Ranveer Singh is far from the first celebrity to clash with FWICE. Over the years, several major stars—including Diljit Dosanjh, Mika Singh, and Kartik Aaryan—have also faced opposition, warnings, or punitive actions from the powerful industry body.
Why Did FWICE Act Against Ranveer Singh?
The latest controversy reportedly erupted following disputes linked to Don 3 and complaints associated with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.
FWICE subsequently issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh, creating uncertainty around several of his ongoing and upcoming projects, including Pralay.
The move has triggered widespread debate within Bollywood regarding the influence and authority of industry unions.
Diljit Dosanjh Faced FWICE Backlash Over Pakistani Actress Controversy
One of the most talked-about clashes involving FWICE occurred in 2025 following the release of Sardaar Ji 3 starring Diljit Dosanjh.
The controversy erupted after the devastating Pahalgam terror attack, which intensified demands across the country for restrictions on Pakistani artists working in Indian entertainment projects.
Diljit faced criticism because the film featured Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. FWICE reportedly issued a directive against the singer-actor, declaring that he would not be allowed to participate in Bollywood projects and that members should refrain from collaborating with him.
Later, producer Bhushan Kumar reportedly intervened and appealed to FWICE to reconsider the action, citing concerns regarding financial losses to Border 2. Following discussions, Diljit allegedly distanced himself from the film’s promotional activities.
Mika Singh Was Banned After Performing in Pakistan
In 2019, singer Mika Singh also faced serious consequences after performing at a wedding event in Karachi, Pakistan.
The performance became highly controversial because the wedding was reportedly connected to relatives of former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.
FWICE strongly condemned the singer’s decision and demanded action against both Mika Singh and his crew members. The federation reportedly imposed a ban on the singer following the incident.
The controversy eventually subsided after Mika Singh publicly apologized and met with federation officials, leading to the withdrawal of the ban.
Kartik Aaryan Received FWICE Warning Over Event Association
Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan also found himself at the center of controversy when FWICE issued a warning letter regarding his alleged association with an event linked to a Pakistani restaurant.
The federation urged the actor not to participate in the event, prompting significant discussion online.
However, Kartik Aaryan’s team later clarified that the actor had no involvement with the event and did not attend it. His representatives also reportedly requested organizers to remove all promotional material connected to the actor.
FWICE’s Role Continues to Spark Debate in Bollywood
The repeated controversies involving FWICE have reignited conversations about the balance of power between film associations, artists, and production houses within the Indian entertainment industry.
Supporters of the federation argue that the organization protects the interests of workers and upholds industry ethics. Critics, however, believe that non-cooperation directives and bans can severely impact creative freedom, film schedules, and employment opportunities for thousands of daily-wage workers.
