Transcending linguistic boundaries, the journey of Indian cinema stars from one language to another has never been so smooth. Malayalam cinema star Dulquer Salmaan's recent release Telugu film 'Sita Ramam' is a big brother to the people. Now Dulquer's new Hindi film 'Chup' is about to be released. Dulquer Salmaan is the son of Malayalam cinema superstar Mammootty. Cinema has been a part of his family since childhood but Dulquer never thought of acting until after he graduated in business management from abroad. He says, “My childhood was spent among friends who were from business families. During their school and college days also all of them were with him. I also started liking business things. People used to say that why do not become heroes, but in Malayalam cinema, children of any star have not been successful, so somewhere this thing struck my mind. I had decided in my mind not to act.
Didn't like the job of nine to five
Cinema has been in the veins of Dulquer Salmaan. All they were afraid of was that if it flopped, what would people say? After doing an MBA, time started passing in the office but he was not enjoying this job from nine to five. “On paper, whatever I was doing on the computer, I was proficient,” says Dulquer. I was happy but I was not getting happiness. Of all the friends I had, none were from the film family. Then I just started making short films to spend time thinking about some stories and then I thought what is contentment and what is the happiness of mind?'
The real victory is overcoming the challenge
According to Dulquer, it is difficult to get success by killing the mind and doing anything in life. Not every youth should choose his vocation out of fear of others. Elaborating on his point, Dulquer says, “A successful father has a lot of pressure on all the children. They may not tell anyone but it is true. Others may think that they got everything just like that, but getting a chance and proving themselves are two different things. I was also initially afraid that if I became an actor, I would be compared to my father immediately. I had thought of going in the direction as well, but then one day I realized that the real victory of life is in completing what seemed like a challenge.
Fear requires skill
Most successful people have one thing in common and that is that while starting anything new, they feel afraid from within. It is this fear that inspires them to do better than the day before. This fear helped Dulquer as well. He explains, 'If you are doing work alone, then there is not that much panic, but shooting a film means facing the camera in front of dozens of people. My fear helped me a lot in memorizing the dialogue. I used to think that people would laugh at me if I had more retakes at the time of the shooting, so my memory got sharpened in this affair. Now the situation is that I can remember even ten lines of dialogue quickly.
Don't get money, doesn't matter
One thing about Dulquer Salmaan is very much talked about in cinema and that is that he never gets attached to money when he gets a good role. According to Dulquer, “Acting has never been a means of earning money for me. I have my investments in many businesses from which I keep getting regular income. Good cinema is being seen even by breaking linguistic boundaries. I want to do cinema in every language. If the character is good in the story, I don't care if the money is good or not. I just want to do good cinema.
Now there is no problem with a negative review
The trailer of 'Chup - Revenge of the Artist' reveals that Dulquer Salmaan is playing the role of the killer. When asked about this, he says, 'It is a thriller film. So it would not be right to say anything about the character right now. When R Balki offered me this film, I found the story very impressive. The content of this film is such that you will not find its reference point anywhere. After hearing the story I felt as if it was a part of my life. Initially, when I used to read negative reviews of my films, there was a lot of tension and I used to stay upset throughout the day. Dad used to understand after seeing the expressions on my face and used to say, don't read negative news. But the nature of man is such that he is more inclined like negative news. But gradually it was understood that that to is a part of life.
Learned this from Sunny Deol and Pooja Bhatt
Dulquer Salmaan has worked with senior actors Sunny Deol and Pooja Bhatt in 'Chup - Revenge of the Artist. Dulquer Salmaan says, 'I have grown up watching the films of Sunny Sahab and Pooja Bhatt. During the shooting of this film, I knowingly and unknowingly got to learn a lot from both of them. One thing I found very special during the shooting of Sunny Deol and Pooja Bhatt. It was that despite being such a senior artist, he always behaved like a newcomer on the sets.
Telugu is new language for me too
The film 'Sita Ramam' is getting a lot of praise these days. In this, Dulquer was paired with Mrunal Thakur. Dulquer says, “Mrunal Thakur is a very hardworking artist. He worked very hard on this film, especially about the language. When asked how much he helped Mrinal Thakur with the language? Dulquer Salmaan said, 'Telugu was as difficult a language for me as it was for Mrinal. It is a very different language from Malayalam and Tamil. Instead of teaching Mrinal, I was working on the language myself.
