Amitabh Bachchan, who started his career in 1969 with the film 'Saat Hindustani', is called the 'Superstar of the Century'. Amitabh Bachchan, who has been entertaining the audience on the big screen for the last six decades, is still active in films even at the age of 82. He has done more than 200 films in his career. Apart from Hindi, Big B has acted in Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi and English language films.
After doing films with two heroes continuously, his fortunes changed in the year 1973, when his film 'Zanjeer' was released. In this film, Big B impressed the audience a lot with his action avatar. This was the film of his career after which he never looked back. However, despite the immense love of the audience and the crowd to watch his films in the theatres and being at the peak of his stardom, a time came in his life when magazines and big publications banned him for political reasons. Why did the media show such indifference towards Big B, read in today's Throw-Back Thursday story:
Why did they refuse to print Big B's name at the peak of his career?
It is believed that Amitabh Bachchan got a break in the industry due to his family's good relations with politicians. Film critic and writer Bharti Pradhan, while talking to news agency ANI, said that after the Emergency ended, Amitabh Bachchan became the target of media censorship.
Pradhan further said that many publications of that time had claimed that during the Emergency imposed in 1975, Amitabh Bachchan supported the government in the censorship imposed on the media. He was accused of making cuts in the articles published at that time. Due to this, many well-known publications boycotted him.
He did not write his name with co-stars like Hema Malini.
The film critic further said that the publications felt that Amitabh Bachchan was a part of the machinery of a famous party of that time, so all the reports had stopped printing his name. Big B was so serious about the boycott that if his name appeared in the credits with Hema Malini or any co-star, he would write the actress' name and put a comma (,) in front of it, but would not write Amitabh Bachchan's name.
Seeing this behavior of the media, even when Amitabh Bachchan himself stood with the cast, he used to stand on the side, because he knew that he would be cropped.
These films changed Big B's fate.
After doing films like 'Zanjeer' and Deewar, Amitabh Bachchan got the tag of 'Angry Young Man' in the industry. He gave many memorable films to Hindi cinema like Namak Haram, Saudagar, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Shahenshah, Dost, Chup Chupke, Sholay, Hera Pheri, Amar Akbar Anthony, Don, Kala Patthar.
