Anupam Kher Scolds David Dhawan Over Retirement Rumors: "Who Are You to Decide..."

Veteran Bollywood filmmaker David Dhawan has returned to the director’s chair after a gap of six years. However, what has surprised fans even more is his announcement that his upcoming film Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani will reportedly be his final directorial venture before retirement.
But actor Anupam Kher, one of David Dhawan’s closest friends and long-time collaborators, is clearly not happy with this decision.
During a recent conversation with ANI, Anupam Kher revealed that he immediately called David Dhawan after hearing about his retirement plans and jokingly scolded him for even thinking about stepping away from filmmaking.

Speaking candidly, Anupam Kher said:
“David Dhawan is a very good friend of mine. I drop by his house whenever I feel like it. When I heard that he was planning to retire, I immediately called him up and gave him a piece of my mind.”
The veteran actor further added:
“What do you mean this is your last film? Who are you to decide that? If the audience loves you, then you shouldn’t go around saying that this is your final film.”
Anupam’s emotional yet humorous reaction has now become a major talking point among Bollywood fans on social media.
Anupam Kher Shares His Father’s Philosophy on Retirement
During the interaction, Anupam Kher also recalled a life lesson given by his father regarding retirement and aging.
He stated:
“My father used to tell me that retirement is merely a state of mind. As long as you can stand on your own feet and continue doing what you love, there is no reason to retire.”
The actor added that this philosophy stayed with him throughout his life and career.
“We are fortunate to be in a profession where there is no fixed age for retirement.”
His statement resonated with many fans who praised the veteran actor’s positive outlook toward work and creativity.
