‘Aasha Encounter’ is a serious dark drama: Ram Gopal Varma

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma described his upcoming film ‘Aasha Encounter’ as a dark drama and said it might appeal to audiences who look for serious entertainment.
“The film is not for entertainment. ‘Asha Encounter’ is a dark drama. Rather watching it as a mere film, see it as a dramatic representation of the real-life incident. It makes you assume what could be the reason behind committing such a heinous crime,” he said while speaking to media persons as part of movie promotions.
Starring actor Srikanth Iyengar and Sonia Akula in the lead roles, the movie is hitting screens on January 1 all over the Telugu States.
RGV further added that, “We tend to back off even after hearing the incident in the news. Even while reporters were narrating the gory incident, it might have seemed a heart wrenching story. As a filmmaker, I am not sure how audiences would feel after watching the incident in front of their eyes. It’s surely a special kind of a film.”
The director further credited his co-director Anand Chandra. ‘I am very impressed with his perspective of looking at the story as a visual narrative. We’re confident about the film. Initially, we gave the title ‘Disha Encounter’ poetic. Although we projected it as a fictional story, the censor board felt that the word Disha should be removed as it has been continuously doing rounds in the news and it might have some repercussions,” he added.
