Varun Dhawan: Varun Dhawan will play the lead role in the Citadel series of India, said- eagerly waiting for the shooting

Russo Brothers' awaited series 'Citadel' is Amazon's first costliest series, with two episodes 'The Lord of the Rings and 'The Rings of Power' released on December 2. The budget of 'Citadel' web series is around $235 million. Prime Video recently confirmed the lead cast of the Indian installment of Citadel Universe, a first-of-its-kind global-event series from Prime Video and Russo Brothers' ABGO. The untitled Citadel series from India will star Varun Dhawan in the lead role and will be helmed by renowned creator duo Raj and DK, who are the directors and showrunners of the series.

With this project, we continue our mission of borderless entertainment to produce local original content that can be enjoyed by audiences across the globe. Local productions of 'Citadel' take place in several countries, forming an inter-connected storyline.

He further added, “We are extremely happy that Varun Dhawan will be playing the lead role in this super exciting Indian installment of the franchise. With Raj and DK joining Varun in the lead role to create this action-packed spy series, the Citadel India chapter will not only raise the bar for original production in India but also draw global attention to India's incredible pool of creators and talent. We can't wait to share it with our audience in India and across the world.' Creator duo Raj and DK said, “We are very excited to partner with our longtime partner Prime Video to be a part of this global event series conceptualized by two very inspirational filmmakers and creators, the Russo Brothers. We are especially looking forward to working with the versatile and dynamic Varun. We have worked very hard in collaboration with other international teams to bring this unique universe to our viewers. We look forward to taking forward the art of storytelling with a bright cast and Citadel India.”

The direction of this series will start in January. It will star Richard Madden (Bodyguard), Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Quantico), and Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games films) in the first-ever launch of the Citadel series in the franchise. It will premiere in 2023. According to media reports, due to creative differences between the makers of the 'Citadel' web series, some parts of it will be re-shot. The series is produced by DTour Films and Amazon Studios. Josh Applebaum, Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg serve as executive producers for Midnight Radio on all series within the Untitled Indian Original and Global Citadel Universes.
