Actor Aamir Khan, who made his Bollywood debut with the film Yaadon Ki Baaraat, is the son of Tahir Hussain, a well-known producer, writer, and director. Following in his father's footsteps, Aamir gained recognition in films. He has been successful as an actor and producer.
Aamir Khan has been in the industry for more than five decades. He has given many super-duper hits and all-time blockbusters in his career. He is called the superstar of Bollywood today, but do you know that despite so much stardom and hit films, the actor has not been paying fees for the last 20 years? Yes, the actor himself has revealed that he has not been taking fees for films for 20 years.
Does not put the burden of fees on the budget
Aamir Khan has told in a recent interview that he does not take fees, but earns by taking shares from the profit of the film. He said, "I loved it (Taare Zameen Par) and I cried a lot. I wanted to make this film. The thing that works the most in my favour is that I don't put my feet on the budget of the film. See my films are made in Rs 10-20 crore and my films can earn that much money anyway."
Earns money from profit share
Aamir Khan further said, "Since I earn money in the profit-share model, it is almost like the old way of artists earning money. They used to perform on the streets and go around with an inverted hat and collect money from the audience. If they like it they can give whatever they think is appropriate and if they don't like it they can walk away. Similarly, if my film works then I earn and if the film doesn't work, I don't earn. I don't take a salary."
Aamir Khan said that his earnings are based on the success of the films. "See, working on this model gives me the freedom to do the kind of films I like. There is no burden of costs and no budget overruns and then there is no fuss and stress about getting back the money that has been deposited. All we have to do is earn the Rs 15-20 crore that has gone into making the film," he said.
