The controversy surrounding Bollywood star Ranveer Singh continues to intensify after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a ‘Non-Cooperation Directive’ against the actor. The move has now triggered major concerns within the Hindi film industry, particularly for filmmakers currently associated with Ranveer Singh’s upcoming projects.
Among the films likely to face the biggest impact is Pralay, the much-anticipated zombie thriller directed by Jay Mehta. According to reports, the makers of the film are now considering approaching the Competition Commission of India (CCI) if the dispute linked to Don 3 continues to disrupt production activities.
Why Did FWICE Issue a Directive Against Ranveer Singh?
The controversy reportedly began after complaints connected to Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani regarding Ranveer Singh’s alleged exit from Don 3.
Following the dispute, FWICE issued a non-cooperation directive instructing affiliated workers and technicians not to collaborate on projects involving the actor. Although the directive is not a legal ban, it can significantly affect film production because Bollywood projects heavily depend on union-affiliated workers and technicians.
‘Pralay’ Could Face Major Production Challenges
Reports suggest that Pralay is scheduled to begin filming in August 2026 and currently employs nearly 500 technicians and crew members across multiple departments, including:
Action teams
Lighting staff
Costume departments
Makeup artists
Art direction teams
Spot staff
According to sources, around 34 vendors associated with the project fall directly under FWICE’s jurisdiction. As a result, the federation’s directive could create serious logistical and operational hurdles for the film’s production schedule.
Industry insiders believe that the impact of the directive may hurt daily-wage workers and technicians more severely than the actor himself.
Concerns Rise Over Employment in Bollywood
Sources close to the production team reportedly stated that more than 70 percent of daily wage workers in the Hindi film industry are already struggling with unemployment due to a slowdown in film production.
Industry members argue that restrictions like non-cooperation directives could further worsen employment conditions for technicians and crew members who rely on regular film shoots for income.
According to reports, if the situation deteriorates further, the makers of Pralay may even explore the possibility of filming outside Mumbai using non-FWICE workers, since the federation’s authority applies only to its registered members.
Makers May Seek Help From CCI
One of the biggest developments in the controversy is the possibility of the filmmakers approaching the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
Reports indicate that the producers are examining legal options because the CCI had earlier ruled in a 2017 case linked to producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah that certain “non-cooperation directives” could amount to anti-competitive practices under the Competition Act.
That ruling reportedly stated that:
Preventing producers from hiring non-members
Disrupting film shoots
Restricting supply of services
could violate fair competition norms within the industry.
A source associated with Ranveer Singh’s upcoming projects reportedly stated that if the matter remains unresolved, the production houses may formally approach the Commission seeking intervention against FWICE’s directive.
Ranveer Singh Maintains Silence Amid Controversy
So far, Ranveer Singh has not publicly escalated the matter. Earlier, his spokesperson stated that the actor prefers to handle professional disagreements privately and with dignity.
Despite the ongoing controversy, Ranveer Singh remains one of Bollywood’s biggest stars following the massive success of Dhurandhar 2. The actor is also reportedly working on multiple upcoming projects, making the outcome of this dispute crucial for both the industry and his future productions.
Bollywood Closely Watching the Outcome
The growing conflict between production houses and industry unions has sparked widespread debate within Bollywood regarding creative freedom, employment security, and the balance of power between producers and film associations.
As the controversy unfolds, all eyes are now on whether the makers of Pralay will officially move the CCI against FWICE—and how the decision could reshape future industry disputes involving actors and film unions.
