Biography:

Sushant Singh Rajput is an Indian theater, television and film actor. In 2013, Rajput made his film debut in Abhishek Kapoor's Kai Po Che!. Rajput participated in the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4 where he finished second.

In 2008, Rajput was spotted by Balaji Telefilms' casting team in one of his plays and was asked to audition. He landed the role of Preet Juneja in Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil. His character was the fun-loving, childish younger brother of Prem Juneja, played by Harshad Chopra. Rajput's character was later killed in the show but came back for the series finale as a spirit, looking at his family celebrate after going through difficult times.

In June 2009 Rajput began starring in Pavitra Rishta as Manav Deshmukh. This character was almost an opposite to his character in Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil, being seen as very serious and mature, working as a mechanic to help support his family. He falls in love with Archana, an uneducated, caring young women, played by Ankita Lokhande. Manav and Archana's love is tested through many challenges but overcomes all. Both want the best for their families and are seen to put the needs of others before their own. Rajput and Lokhande have won many Best Couple awards for their on-screen chemistry in Pavitra Rishta.

In May 2010, he joined the dance reality show Zara Nachke Dikha 2 where he was a part of the Mast Kalandar Boys Team. Rajput dedication to his work was seen as he continued with shooting for both Pavitra Rishta and Zara Nachke Dikha 2 despite being ill. On the "Mother's Day Special" episode, his team dedicated a performance to his mother, who passed away.

In December 2010, he participated in another dance-based reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4 where he was paired with choreographer Shampa Sonthalia. The pair scored perfect many times and Sushant won the title of Most Consistent Performer.

In October 2011, Rajput decided to quit Pavitra Rishta to pursue a film-making course abroad. He was replaced by Hiten Tejwani after the show saw a leap of 20 years. His fiancée Ankita Lokhande is still seen on the show.

Rajput auditioned for Abhishek Kapoor's Kai Po Che! and bagged the role of one of the three leads. The movie was released on February 22, 2013 and has been a critical and a commercial success. Rajput garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews for his portrayal of Ishaan Bhatt in the movie. Top critic Rajeev Masand noted " But it’s Sushant Singh Rajput, making his film debut as Ishaan, who it’s hard to take your eyes off. The actor has an indescribable presence, and it’s clear from his confidence and distinct likability that a star is born." One India Entertainment reports, "Sushant Singh Rajput makes a brilliant and effortless debut with Kai Po Che.", giving the film 4 out of 5 stars.

Rajput's second movie was Shuddh Desi Romance, directed by Maneesh Sharma and opposite Parineeti Chopra and Vaani Kapoor. The film was declared a hit  Taran Adarsh from Bollywood Hungama praised Rajput's performance, saying "After leaving a tremendous impression in his first Hindi outing, Sushant Singh Rajput wows you with a remarkable portrayal yet again. He brings a lot of freshness with his unpretentious and spontaneous act."  Sukanya Verma from Rediff.com gave the film 3.5 stars out of 5 and states, "After a dynamic debut in Kai Po Che!, Rajput channelises his abundant energy to convey the childlike ineptitude of a man who wears his heart on a sleeve."
