Biography:

Sidharth Malhotra (born 16 January 1985) is an Indian actor and model who appears in Hindi films. He began his acting career in Karan Johar's commercially successful dramedy Student of the Year, for which he received a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut nomination. He subsequently received generally positive reviews for his performance in the romantic comedy Hasee Toh Phasee (2014).

Career

Prior to his acting debut, Malhotra worked as an assistant director to Karan Johar on his 2010 film, My Name Is Khan. In 2012, Malhotra made his debut in Karan Johar's Student of the Year alongside Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. His performance was appreciated by film critics. Taran Adarsh from Bollywood Hungama stated, "Both Sidharth and Varun are excessively talented, supremely confident and hardly look like first-time actors. Photogenic, charming and self-assured, it's tough to say who's better, Sidharth or Varun. Both shine in their respective roles, both enact their parts with gusto. Sidharth is terrific, while Varun is a talent one can't help but marvel at. In fact, all three, Siddharth, Varun and Alia, are here to stay!". Rajeev Masand from CNN-IBN wrote, "The debutants, in turn, put their best foot forward: Sidharth Malhotra is earnest and has a pleasing presence" while film critic Roshni Devi commented, "With three big debutantes in the movie, it is a bit difficult to pick and choose, but my vote goes for Sidharth Malhotra as Abhimanyu. He’s the sweet charming boy who steals your heart with his sighs". Anupama Chopra from Hindustan Times commented, "Critically, the leading men, Varun and Sidharth, work. They don't instantly set the screen on fire like Hrithik Roshan or Ranbir Kapoor did in their first films. But they grow on you. Karan puts a heavy burden on them. They are the backbone of this film, but they pull it off. If you have patience and a taste for the overblown, check them out". The film performed extremely well at the box office, earning over 70 crore (US$11 million) domestically. The songs also became popular with the romantic track "Ishq Wala Love" became the biggest hit of the album concluded by "Radha" and "Disco Song".

Malhotra was paired opposite Parineeti Chopra alongside Adah Sharma in the film Hasee Toh Phasee, co-produced by Dharma Productions and Phantom Films and directed by debutant Vinil Mathew. Talking abou his character , Malhotra said, "He is lost, not successful and sentimental. He is not a typical hero kind of character. He is under pressure and is the most stressed out character of the movie."The film as well as his performance received positive reviews. Mohar Basu of Koimoi wrote, "In every bit Malhotra matches up to Parineeti’s terrific work with equal gusto. He is gregarious but restrained and there is a serene calmness in his performance which makes him a smashing hit. To compliment Parineeti’s boisterousness is quite a challenge and so far he is the co-star she is best suited with." and described his chemistry with Chopra a " lively, heartfelt chemistry with confidence." " Further, Komal Nahta appreciated his performance and opined that Malhotra " shows a remarkable maturity in his second film. He acts with effortless ease and shines as Nikhil."  The movie although had a mixed opening at the box-office, it showed a good growth due to word-of-mouth publicity  and ultimately emerged a commercial success.

Malhotra has also been signed for a non-exclusive two film deal with Ekta Kapoor's production house, Balaji Motion Pictures. Sidharth has also bagged Mohit Suri's The Villain alongside Shraddha Kapoor which is to be produced by Balaji Motion Pictures. He will romance two leading ladies in Remo D Souza's next produced by Karan Johar.
