Biography:

Shaan is an Indian playback singer more active in Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, and Kannada films and a television host. He hosted the shows Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs, Star Voice of India and STAR Voice of India 2. In Music Ka Maha Muqabla, his team, Shaan's Strikers, finished as the runners up to Shankar Mahadevan’s team. He has also sung many Pakistani songs. He is considered as the one of the most popular voices for romantic as well as melodious songs and is one of the most versatile singers. He has sung songs of different genres like pop, sad songs, patriotic, jazz, ghazals, hip-hop, rock, and many more. He has sung songs in Kannada, Bengali, Punjabi, Nepali, English, Hindi, Oriya, Malayalam, Marathi. He also started his career at a very young age of 17 years in year 1989 without any professional background. He has been showered by titles like 'Golden Voice of India',' Voice of Paradise', 'Magician of Melody', 'Voice of Youth'.

Apart from singing on his own albums, Shaan has provided the voice for many of Bollywood's leading men including Arjun Rampal, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar, Shahid Kapoor, Sunil Shetty, Dino Morea, Jackie Shroff, Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, Anil Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Ranbir Kapoor and R. Madhavan. He has established himself as one of the leading playback singers in Bollywood today.


Shaan sang, composed the music and wrote the lyrics of his songs on his hit albums Tanha Dil and Aksar, and has also composed music for many TV serials, winning the "Best TV music director award".[citation needed] Shaan also gives advice on music and lyrics to the music directors for whom he sings.

Shaan is a versatile singer and has sung in different genres, belting out a blockbuster like "Nikamma" and, on the other hand, singing the soulful rag-darbari based "Paigham laya saawan". "Tanha dil" was a pop superhit, while "One Love" belongs to hip-hop genre, and "Bhool Ja" is a rock Ballad. He has started learning music from the legendary Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan and, according to Shaan, this has enriched his voice.[citation needed]


He has also recorded the theme song for the IPL team Deccan Chargers known as "Go Chargers Go" with composer Shamir Tandon and lyricist Virag Mishra. This song belongs to the Pop Rock genre.


Musical show hosting


Shaan hosted the television show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee TV between the years 2000–2006, which won the Music Programme of the Year award at the Indian Telly Awards in 2003. In 2007, he left and was replaced by 21-year-old Aditya Narayan. At the same awards, Shaan won Best TV Music Director, for creating the music of the Zee TV show, Lipstick, for his friend Goldie Behl. He also appeared as the guest in the first episode of the new show Antakshari: The Great Challenge which aired on 9 February 2007 on Star One.


Shaan is now the host of a music show called Star Voice of India (SVOI) which airs on Star Plus. He was offered the role of host for Star Voice of India Chote Ustaad, but opted out to spend time with his family. However, he returned to host the next season of Star Voice of India.
