Biography:

Jason Ferus Blum is an American film producer. Blum is the founder and CEO of Blumhouse Productions, made especially for producing horror films.

Life and career

Blum is the son of art professor Shirley N. Blum and independent art dealer Irving Blum. Jason Blum worked for Bob and Harvey Weinstein as Executive producer and later as independent producer for Warner Brothers. He also was working as Producing director at Ethan Hawke's Malaparte Theater Company. Blum is a graduate of Vassar College.

He obtained financing for his first film as producer, Kicking and Screaming (1995), after receiving a letter from family acquaintance Steve Martin, who endorsed the script. Blum attached the letter to copies of the script he sent around to Hollywood execs. In 2000, he founded Blumhouse Productions, which specializes in producing micro-budget movies. Some of the movies produced by Blum have been highly profitable. The horror film Paranormal Activity was produced for $15,000 and earned nearly $200 million.

Blum also produced Insidious (2010), Sinister (2012), and The Purge (2013), all of which became a potential franchise.

On July 14, 2012, Blum married journalist Lauren A.E. Schuker.
